March 2, 2012 Tornado Outbreak Recap
On Friday, March 2, 2012 the Ohio and Mississippi river valleys had the first tornado outbreak of the 2012 severe weather season. On this day the Storm Prediction Center also issued a rare HIGH RISK for most of Kentucky, Southern Indiana, and Southwestern Ohio. The storm system affected 12 states with deadly tornadoes. The worst of them being an EF-4 monster that ripped through Maryville and Henryville, Indiana, which were as some have called it, 'wiped off' the map. Liberty, Kentucky also had parts shredded by another EF-2 tornado. The severe weather even extended down into Tennessee and Alabama. Emily Daubs, a member here at Extreme Weather Videos, went down to the Huntsville, AL area and shot these pictures of EF-1 tornado damage. The tornado rolled through New Market, AL early on Friday morning. (See Below)

The main severe weather threat today appears to be damaging winds, but hail and a few tornadoes are also possible. The storms should begin to initiate around 4pm EST. January Severe Weather for Dixie Alley!
These next couple days the threat of severe weather returns to Dixie Alley. The Storm Prediction Center has issued Slight Risk areas for both tomorrow and Sunday.(See Below) Tomorrow the severe weather will be mainly focused from Alabama eastward to South Carolina. The main threat of severe weather will be damaging winds and hail, although a few isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Then, on Sunday, the threat will shift into the Tennessee Valey/Ozarks region. The threat on Sunday will be more widespread it appears after looking at the lastes NAM models. There is also a chance that on Monday the threat may continue, but the GFS and EMCWF models are at odds with each other, so the predictability is too low at this time to issue a risk area for Monday. Be sure to watch all the live storm chasing streams through our streaming provider ChaserTV. We will be posting further updates as warranted and the Nowcasting thread in the forum will have all the latest weather watches, warnings, and statements. The Storm Outlook page will also have the latest severe weather risk maps. Stay tuned for further updates from EWV on this developing storm system!
